ACADEMICS
ANLC provides an integrated curriculum in which students engage in active, rather than passive, learning activities. Developmentally appropriate materials and experiences are provided for students to explore, think about, interact with, and communicate with other students and adults. Besides being adherent to the State and District standards, the content of the curriculum is relevant, meaningful and engaging to students. Teachers recognize the importance of developing positive peer group relationships among students, and they provide opportunities and support for cooperative projects that not only develop cognitive ability but also promote positive peer interaction. Classroom atmosphere enhances students’ optimism about their own abilities and school in general, which motivates them to learn. Because each student develops at their own pace, students in multi-grade classrooms provide one another with opportunities to both push and pull each other along. Instructional strategies utilized educate the whole child, and teachers are ever cognizant of each student’s cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development. ANLC students are pushed to become self-confident learners, critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and creative, expressive individuals.
